Marguerite Crow Reynolds

June 28, 1921 - January 21, 2013


Marguerite Crow Reynolds, 91, died Monday, January 21, 2013, at her home in Wilmington, NC, following a brief illness. Marguerite was born June 28, 1921 in Houston, Texas, the daughter of Nannie Holladay and Emmet Polk Crow. Following her graduation from Saint Mary’s College in Raleigh, she returned to Houston where she lived until moving to Wilmington and marrying Frank Russell Reynolds, M.D. on March 30, 1946.
Marguerite was preceded in death by her brother, Emmet Polk Crow, Jr. (Carol) and her sisters Fannie Crow Stovall (Corbett) and Nancy Crow Stovall (Harry). She was also preceded in death by two granddaughters, Emma Hayward Miars and Katherine “Katie” Russell Reynolds.
She is survived by her husband of sixty-six years, Dr. Frank Russell Reynolds, of the home, and her children, Frank Russell Reynolds, Jr. (Keith), Marguerite “Margo” Reynolds Miars (George) of Wilmington, Fairfax Crow Reynolds (Ann) of Burlington and Lindsay Reynolds Jones (Bill) of Charlotte.
Also surviving are six grandchildren: George Trask Miars, Jr. (Katie), Frank Reynolds Miars, Elizabeth Reynolds Sheats (Livingston), Heath Reynolds Beasley (Scott), Randolph Fairfax Reynolds (Jenny), and Edward Finley Reynolds as well as five great-grandchildren: Emma Miars, George Miars, Ward Beasley, Hunter Beasley, and Mary Heath Reynolds. She is additionally survived by first cousin Colvin Worth, her best friend, Sarah Parsley and a host of nieces and nephews.
Growing up in Houston and spending summers at the Crow family home on Masonboro Sound, Marguerite was known as “Tootie”, a name affectionately carried on by her family and friends. Many summers were also spent at Wrightsville Beach, where Tootie welcomed all with hospitality and generosity. She will always be remembered for her constant desire to serve others, devotion to family and friends and a heart for those less fortunate.
Marguerite was a member of the Ministering Circle, the National Society of Colonial Dames, the New Hanover Medical Auxiliary, the Catherine Kennedy Home Board of Directors and the Junior League.
She was a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church, Wilmington, where a memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, January 24. The family will receive friends in Gilmore Hall following the service. Memorials may be made to the Ministering Circle, PO Box 3862, Wilmington, NC 28406 or the charity of one’s choice.
